NHL Stats Bot ("the Bot") is a Discord bot that provides NHL statistics, scores, and predictions. This policy explains what data the Bot accesses, what it stores, and how it's used.

What the Bot Reads

The Bot requires the Message Content privileged intent to read messages that begin with the ! command prefix. This is how users interact with the Bot — for example, typing !score BUF to look up a game score. The Bot only processes messages that start with ! and ignores all other messages. Message content is parsed in memory to identify the command and any arguments, then discarded. No message content is logged, stored, or transmitted.

What the Bot Stores

The Bot stores a limited amount of data to provide its features:

• Premium subscriptions: Discord server ID and the activation status of the subscription. Payments are processed by Stripe — the Bot never sees or stores payment card details.
• Game alerts: Discord server ID, channel ID, and team preference for servers that opt into automatic game alerts via the !gamealerts command.
• Pick'em predictions: Discord user ID, server ID, and the picks made through the pick'em commands. This data is used to score predictions and maintain the server leaderboard.
• Trivia scores: Discord user ID, server ID, and trivia game results for the server leaderboard.

What the Bot Does Not Store

• Message content or chat history
• Usernames, avatars, or profile information
• Server member lists or presence data
• Direct messages
• Payment or billing information (handled entirely by Stripe)

Third-Party Services

The Bot queries the following external APIs to retrieve hockey data. No user data is sent to these services — only hockey-related queries (team names, player names, dates).

• NHL API and NHL Stats API
• MoneyPuck (expected goals / analytics)
• ESPN (injuries and transactions)
• CapWages (contract data)
• The Odds API (betting lines)

Payment processing is handled by Stripe. When you subscribe via !upgrade, you are redirected to a Stripe checkout page. The Bot receives only the subscription status and server ID from Stripe webhooks — no card numbers or billing addresses.

Data Retention

Pick'em and trivia data is retained for the duration of the NHL season and may be cleared between seasons. Premium subscription and alert configuration data is retained as long as the subscription or alert is active. When a subscription is cancelled or alerts are removed, the associated data is deleted.

Data Access and Deletion

If you want to know what data the Bot stores for your server or user ID, or if you want that data deleted, contact the developer at the email below. Server admins can remove alert configuration at any time by running !gamealerts off.

Children's Privacy

The Bot does not knowingly collect data from users under the age of 13. Use of Discord is subject to Discord's Terms of Service, which require users to meet a minimum age requirement.

Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
